BREAK-INS AND THEFTS

Not a topic that we like to start the newsletter with, but we need to bring it to your attention, and we need your help.  On both Thursday and Friday mornings, the lifeguards arrived to find evidence of break-ins that had occurred overnight.  Although the crooks were unable to gain access the first night, they did gain access on the second.  Fortunately for us, the items stolen were not of significant value.  The larger issue is the damage caused to the office door and the shed window that must now be repaired.

On both occasions, the Fairfax County Police were called and came to Woodley to investigate.  In the case of the second incident, physical evidence has been collected and an investigation has been opened.

Also, we have also become aware of cell phones, purses, and other items being stolen from within the pool area, from cars in our parking lot, and from cars in the surrounding neighborhood.

What can you do to help?

  • If you have any information related to any of these crimes, please contact us by replying to this email or contact the Fairfax County Police directly using the non-emergency number, 703-691-2131.  Provide the police with the Woodley address, 7421 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church.  They will then be able to add your information to our open investigation.

  • Be conscious of your valuables.  Lock your cars and keep your cell phones and other valuables at home, locked in your car, or hidden well in your pool bag.  Be especially conscious during the remaining Swim and Dive Meets when we have a number of people at the pool that we do not recognize.

  • Report suspicious activity.  If you see someone searching through another person’s pool bag, grabbing a pool bag and then leaving, or someone in an area where they should not be (e.g., in the office, in the shed, or on the pool property), please report it immediately to the manager on duty.

  • If you live in the neighborhood and are driving by after hours or in the off season, please take a glance over at the pool as you drive by.  If you see suspicious activity, please contact the police.

Thank you for your help.  Now, on to the FUN news...

EXTRA WINE & CHEESE NIGHT - SATURDAY, JULY 27

After the great turnout at the first Wine & Cheese event in June, another one has been added to the calendar.  Meet under the pavilion starting at 6:00.  Bring a bottle of wine to share.  Cheese, crackers, corkscrew, and cups will be provided.  If you’re new to Woodley, the Wine & Cheese Party is a great way to meet those that have been members a bit longer and learn some of the secrets the Woodley Community has to offer.

LOST & FOUND (& WASHED & FOLDED)

Please checked for your lost items on the table just inside the pool entrance (or under the pavilion if it is raining).  Thanks to Michelle Kline for cleaning the Lost & Found Room and taking the clothes and towels home to be washed and folded.
